Role Overview

Providing strategic leadership and management within the business. The General Manager will be responsible for ensuring financial and operational commitments are met and exceeded.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct management of the senior management team
  • Ensuring a customer focus within all areas of operational activities, and that effective relationships are maintained with key client contacts.
  • Accountable for the performance of the P&L across the Company
  • Working with the Directors, set direction and targets for Company and communicate these effectively to all team members
  • Agreeing and owning budgetary targets for turnover and margin within the Company and reporting progress monthly against these
  • Work with the Business Development team to identify opportunities and provide appropriate resources to convert these into secured orders
  • Supporting the sales process through solutions development, participation in presentations and consultation meetings, hosting visits, and support to mobilisation as required on new contracts
  • Working closely with the Senior Contracts Manager and Project Managers to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget and to the contract specification
  • Working closely with the Project Managers to ensure client satisfaction and optimization of resources
  • Ensure optimum staffing structures operate across contracts, balancing cost reduction with the delivery of service excellence. Ensure structures support peaks and troughs in workload, and disaster recovery.
  • Ensuring adherence to H&S policies and procedures
  • Overall responsibility for the team, working closely with HR with regards to recruitment, staff inductions, training, time & attendance, performance reviews etc.
  • Maintain good relationships with principal contractors, suppliers, auditors, clients, H&S authorities
  • Chairing departmental meetings and ensuring regular reporting from managers on KPIs and numbers
  • Negotiate credit control to ensure prompt payments
  • Present performance of the Company at monthly finance review meetings with the Business Directors, explaining any variances and providing amended forecast figures where necessary
  • Delivery of, or exceeding project commercial and financial performance targets through rigorous management of costs, billing and change control, and driving commercial best practice
  • Recognise when issues need to be escalated to the client and stakeholders and when compromises have to be made within the Company

Person Specification

  • Able to work with client contacts and build strong professional relationships
  • Lead and guide a team to ensure productivity and quality of work is mastered
  • Be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of at least 5 years of General Management in a service-based organisation in the construction industry
  • A proven record of delivering successful projects and commercial awareness
  • Resource and training management experience
  • Experience in developing operational forecasts and programmes including financial management
  • The ability to conduct operational audits and develop improvement plans
  • Full and clean driving license essential

Salary and Benefits

£80,000 – £110,000 per annum, depending on experience
